Pacifics Outlast Sturgeon 10-8

June 8 2023 The San Rafael Pacifics defeated the Martinez Sturgeon 10-8 after building an early lead and holding off a late challenge. San Rafael scored six runs in the first inning, added one in the fifth and three in the sixth to finish with 10 runs on seven hits. Martinez collected 11 hits and scored five runs in the fifth inning, but could not complete the comeback.

Nick Smith led the Pacifics with a home run and five RBIs, while Kyle Guerra reached base four times with a hit and three walks and scored twice. Cam Vollmer added a hit and an RBI, and John Bicos contributed a hit and an RBI. Martinez received a two-hit three-RBI performance from Nick Adgar, who hit a home run, while Tony Riley went 3-for-5 with a homer and two RBIs.

Eric Parnow earned the win for San Rafael after allowing eight hits and six runs, four earned, in five innings. He walked three and struck out five. Chris Allen followed with a scoreless inning and three strikeouts, and Jayson Summers worked three innings, allowing three hits and two runs while striking out five.

Troy Whitty took the loss for Martinez after surrendering seven hits and 10 runs, seven earned, in six innings. He walked six and struck out one. Jon Fargnoli completed the game with two scoreless innings and one strikeout, but the Sturgeon’s seventh- and ninth-inning runs were not enough to overcome San Rafael’s first-inning advantage.
