Monterey Amberjacks Beat Martinez Sturgeon 7-4

June 23 2023 The Monterey Amberjacks scored four runs in the first inning and held on for a 7-4 victory over the Martinez Sturgeon. Monterey added two runs in the second and one in the fifth to build a 7-1 lead before Martinez scored once in each of the fourth sixth and eighth innings. The Amberjacks finished with four hits while the Sturgeon collected six.

Tristan Cavazos led Monterey with one hit two RBI and two runs scored while Chaison Miklich added one hit and two RBI. Anthony Ward scored twice and drew three walks and Sean Bennett scored twice. Martinez received a strong performance from Sam Freedman who went 2-for-4 with a home run two runs scored and one RBI. Luke Johnson and Cain Agis each drove in a run.

Greg Salazar earned the win for Monterey after allowing four hits and three earned runs over six innings with four strikeouts and six walks. Nick Samudio pitched two innings and allowed one earned run before Dominic Scotti completed the ninth with a strikeout for the save. Isaiah Chavez took the loss for Martinez after allowing six runs five earned on two hits and eight walks in two innings.
