Train Robbers Use Big Seventh to Defeat Sturgeon 8-4

June 29 2023 The Bakersfield Train Robbers defeated the Martinez Sturgeon 8-4 after breaking open a close game with a four-run seventh inning. Bakersfield finished with 11 hits and no errors, while Martinez collected eight hits and committed three errors.

Bakersfield took a 3-0 lead in the third inning and added a run in the fifth before pulling away in the seventh. Christian Jones went 2-for-5 with three RBI, Chris Iazzetta added two hits and two RBI, and S. Goodwin hit a two-run home run. Max Tracey also had two hits and scored twice.

Martinez answered with single runs in the fourth sixth seventh and ninth innings. Sam Freedman went 2-for-4 with a home run and an RBI, while Nick Adgar and Cain Agis also homered for the Sturgeon. Adgar and Agis each finished with one RBI.

Ruben Portillo earned the win for Bakersfield after allowing two runs on five hits in six innings with five strikeouts and no walks. Hunter Adams worked two innings and James Reilly pitched the ninth. Harrison Aiken took the loss for Martinez after giving up three runs on four hits in four innings.
