Martinez Sturgeon Rally Past Vallejo Seaweed 9-4

July 11 2024 The Martinez Sturgeon scored five runs in the fourth inning and three more in the eighth to defeat the Vallejo Seaweed 9-4. Martinez outhit Vallejo 11-9 and overcame an early deficit after Vallejo scored once in the first, third, fourth and seventh innings.

Andrew Curran powered the Sturgeon offense with a home run, two runs and two RBI. Tyler Best added two RBI, while Nick Adgar drove in two runs and Erik Whitfield finished with two hits, two doubles and one RBI. Dante Peretti scored twice and contributed one RBI for Martinez.

Carlos Drain collected three hits and two RBI for Vallejo, while Mickey Nunes had one hit, two RBI and one run scored. J.T. Reed and Eddie Molina each added two hits for the Seaweed, who stranded 14 runners.

Dillon Ponce earned the win for Martinez after allowing one hit and no runs with two strikeouts and two walks over two innings. Ryan Cormier started and allowed three runs on five hits in three innings, while Jesue Rivera struck out two in a scoreless ninth. Vallejo starter Dylan Farinacci took the loss despite pitching seven innings with six runs, four earned, allowed on 10 hits and six strikeouts.
